A Framework for our Future

Project Overview

Fox Point-Bayside School District serves approximately 800 students in four-year-old kindergarten through eighth grade in its two schools, Stormonth Elementary and Bayside Middle. After successfully guiding Fox Point-Bayside through two operational referendum approvals, the District once again turned to Mueller Communications, this time for an ongoing partnership to provide comprehensive strategy and support for all of the District’s communications efforts.

The Challenge

After the 2020-21 school year, the District determined that it was the opportune time to consider where it was headed, set intentional goals for the next three to five years and develop a strategic plan to achieve them. The strategic planning process unearthed a critical need for ongoing, strategic communication support to ensure the District was engaging with families in a consistent, clear and transparent way before, throughout and long after the strategic planning process.

The Solution

Mueller Communications developed the messaging and visual concept “Framework for Our Future,” working with a small group of district stakeholders. From there, we assisted with all aspects of communications and engagement, including a series of strategy sessions featuring facilitated discussions with 300 community members, staff and families. Mueller was instrumental in taking all of the quantitative and qualitative feedback from the listening sessions and working with district leadership team to turn it into an actionable strategic plan.

Strategies included messaging and branding of the strategic plan and associated communications materials – including FAQs, social media content, key messages, informational posters and more – to educate families and staff about the new strategic framework.

Mueller also developed ongoing content for the website landing page, organized presentations to key community groups and coordinated media relations efforts to effectively communicate to the Fox Point-Bayside community.

The Results

Fox Point-Bayside’s strategic plan was introduced to the community in fall 2022 – one year after the initial planning process began. Since its introduction, Mueller has worked to develop and implement a communications plan to maintain community awareness of the plan’s initiatives through strategic external communications, such as social media, regular newsletters and media relations.

Mueller developed a strategic plan icon to signify to stakeholders that the initiative discussed in newsletter articles, social media posts or physical materials was related to the strategic plan. Continuing to see this branding throughout district communications instilled community trust that the leadership team was accomplishing its goals. Additionally, halfway through the strategic plan timeline, Mueller produced a handout that updated the community on each of the plan’s pillars and goals.
