Each summer, Mueller Communications, LLC offers a $2,000 scholarship and paid internship at a competitive, hourly rate. The firm seeks Wisconsin's best and brightest students who have demonstrated an interest in learning more about the communications and public relations fields. Throughout the summer internship, the selected intern will have the opportunity to experience different aspects of the firm’s work, such as marketing research, public affairs, media relations, crisis and corporate communications, community relations and business-to-business marketing.

2017: SAVANNAH AKINSANYA
Savannah Akinsanya graduated from Ball State University in 2018 and is currently working in New York City in experiential marketing and event production. Prior to her internship at Mueller Communications, Savannah worked with the Indianapolis Colts as both a Guest Services Intern and a Community Relations Intern.
2016: MARY DECHANT
Mary DeChant is currently working as an earned media intern at Hoffman York, where she manages social pages and drafts social posts on a monthly basis. Prior to interning for Mueller Communications, Mary held public relations positions at Zizzo Group and National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin. Mary received a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in public relations from Marquette University in May 2017.
2015: JULIA MARKUN
Julia Markun worked for two years at Mueller Communications before becoming a PR Coordinator at Kohl's. Throughout college, she held multiple public relations intern positions throughout Milwaukee with organizations such as ESPN Milwaukee and Froedtert Health. Julia received a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University in May 2016 with specialties in public relations, Spanish for the business profession and marketing.
2014: RACHEL BERKOWITZ
Rachel Berkowitz currently works as the Public Relations Coordinator for Baird. Prior to joining Muller Communications full-time and serving as the Ben Barkin intern, Rachel held internships with several Milwaukee area agencies and organizations such as VISIT Milwaukee, Zizzo Group, 7Summits and Marquette University. In 2015 she graduated from Marquette University where she received a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in public relations, advertising and film studies.
2013: LAUREN PETER
Lauren Peter currently works as a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual. Prior to joning NM, Lauren was with the nonprofit organization Autism Speaks-Wisconsin/Iowa branch as the Manager of Field Development. After finishing the Ben Barkin Internship with Mueller Communications, Lauren worked with the Milwaukee Bucks as the Ticket Sales and Service student intern. In 2014 she graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Arts in public relations, marketing and economics.
2012: HEATHER LAING
Heather Laing is currently with Ross Stores, Inc. in New York City as an Associate Merchandise Control Analyst. Before joining Ross Stores, Inc, Heather worked at Macy’s Department Store Corporate in the Cosmetics Department as the Inventory Planner. After completing the Ben Barkin Internship with Mueller Communications, Heather graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013 with concentrations in pre-medicine/pre-medical studies, biology and journalism. Following her graduation, she went on to continue her education at Harvard Business School in 2016 where she received a CORe: Credential of Readiness.
