CASE HISTORIES
Civic and community engagement:
Mercury Waste Solutions
Challenge
Mercury Waste Solutions, located in Union Grove, Wisconsin, is a leading mercury recycling center of its kind in the nation. The company properly and safely recycles materials containing mercury for many of America’s leading companies and government agencies. However, because of the sensitivity surrounding the danger of mercury, one of the deadliest heavy metals, Mercury Waste Solutions was faced with the challenge of positioning itself as a responsible corporate citizen with the highest dedication to safety, the environment, and the well being of its community.
Solution
In an effort to create broader awareness of the company, its role recycling mercury and its contributions to the community, Mercury Waste Solutions enlisted Mueller Communications, Inc. (MCI) to assist in the planning and execution of a community open house event. Designed to be both an educational and entertaining event, the open house featured speeches by company leadership, a panel discussion featuring nationally acclaimed mercury experts, facility tours and informational displays, in addition to a catered, buffet-style meal, live music, and entertainment for local families and children.
Results
MCI worked with Mercury Waste Solutions to host more than 300 neighbors, elected officials, and community members, who were all able to learn more about the company, its missions, and its business practices. In addition to the successful event, MCI worked to secure a positive news article in the company’s local daily newspaper, highlighting both the entertainment and educational aspects, and positioning Mercury Waste Solutions as a company employing the newest technologies and practices in the industry, with complete dedication to the safety of its both its employees and its community.
As a result of the event, the company received accolades from local residents and government officials and strengthened its position as a strong corporate citizen within the community.
