CASE HISTORIES
Civic and community engagement:
Milwaukee Brewers Block Parties
Challenge
The Milwaukee Brewers experienced record attendance figures during the 2007 season and wanted to find a way to thank fans, become more engaged with the local communities surrounding Miller Park and build relationships with elected officials.
Solution
Mueller Communications developed a creative plan combining two Milwaukee summer traditions that have been enjoyed for years – Brewers baseball and neighborhood block parties. The result was a new tradition: the Milwaukee Brewers Block Parties. Mueller Communications hosted three events in June, July and August 2007 in local neighborhoods. The block parties included autograph signings by Brewers players, free food and beverages and entertainment including DJs, face painters, clowns and interactive games, as well as appearances by Bernie Brewer and the world famous Klement's Racing Sausages.
Results
The block parties proved to be largely successful among Brewers fans everywhere, with people coming from all over Wisconsin to participate in the activities. The Brewers plan to continue this new tradition and double the number of block parties in 2008, from three to six. Originally slated as neighborhood-exclusive events, following the first event in June, the block parties evolved to become parties with regional appeal.
